When you\u2019re shopping for a new home, choosing the right neighborhood is essential. So how do you pick the place that\u2019s right for you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Think About What Matters<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you dive too deep into house hunting, take a few moments to think about what matters most to you and your family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you have kids who\u2019ll be heading to school? Then you\u2019ll want to research schools in your target areas. Good schools are great for your home\u2019s value over time, so it may be worth checking out a neighborhood\u2019s schools even if you don\u2019t have children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Do You Want to Spend Your Time?<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Think about your hobbies and how you like to spend your time. Do you need access to a gym? Parks and green spaces? &nbsp;Hiking trails or bike lanes? If outdoor activities are a big part of your life\u2014or if you\u2019re pretty sure you\u2019d like them to be\u2014consider what you\u2019d need in a neighborhood to make it easy to maintain an active lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone needs to eat\u2014do you need access to restaurants? Grocery stores? Farmers\u2019 markets? Coffee shops? Bars and nightlife?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also think about how you get around. Is it important to have places to go within in walking distance of your home? Do you need quick access to the highway? Or the airport? How long are you really willing to commute to get to work?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Do You Hope to Avoid? <\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ve probably also got a list of things you don\u2019t want in a neighborhood, too\u2014if quiet is important to you, then living in a neighborhood bisected by a busy freight rail line is probably not for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No neighborhood is perfect, of course, so try to to identify the things on your list that are really critical, and things on your list that are just nice-to-have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next, you\u2019ll want to do some neighborhood detective work. It\u2019s easy to get started online with neighborhood guides\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.compass.com\/\">Compass<\/a> is a great place to start.
